Financial inclusion for the underbanked
banQi, a fintech app for Brazilians
I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work as the Lead Designer for an amazing start up called Airfox. While I did support some Airfox specific marketing efforts, a majority of my time was spent working on their product which is a financial services app called banQi.
A little background...
Part of my driving motivation for joining Airfox in the first place was their mission which was and continues to be; to create accessible financial services to the underbanked in Latin America. They saw a huge portion of the Brazilian population that were lacking financial services such as traditional bank accounts and access to credit. Airfox was looking to help address this need by building and launching banQi, a digital “neobank” that extends transparent, no-cost digital transaction capabilities and access to banking services. And I wanted to be a part of that mission in some form. For me it was through Design and Animation. Below are samples of the work I contributed to for the banQi app.

Sample of User Flow
Here we have a set of screens from Figma demonstrating the user flow for activation of the physical card once the user receives it.
note: These are in Portuguese for the Brazilian market
From these screens I wanted to further illustrate the flow and decided to animate the sequence.
Next steps...
This ended up being well received internally and I began to work on an initiative to animate several of our key features in the app. This example below is of some mockups (Figma/Photoshop) for when we rolled out a feature that allowed people to deposit at a Lotética (Brazilian payment/transaction stations).
This initiative also evolved to assist the Product and Customer Support teams in the form of tutorials. We were finding that some of the most frequently asked questions could easily be addressed through these quick hit animation pieces. Here’s an example of the Cashback feature that we rolled out once the physical card released.
Time for a redesign
As banQi gained traction, the team began working on an app redesign based on the feedback loop with our users. Below is a video showcasing a few screens of the new look and feel for the banQi app. This demo ended up being shown at VVar Day, a conference hosted by Via Varejo (one of Brazil’s largest retailers) for their C level team and shareholders.
